Knockout gorgeous! Château du Trignon’s 2023 Viognier Côtes-du-Rhône Blanc is a classic beauty. Need we say more? We insist. Crystalline brilliant in the glass and redolent with Viognier’s heady perfume of juicy peach, pear, and exotic spice tones, the 2023 Château du Trignon Viognier Côtes-du-Rhône Blanc had us at first sight and sip – and that’s just this wine’s opening act. Pure, racy and laser-like on the palate, the wine’s fruit, spice and mineral tones ingratiate the palate and enliven the senses. And, in true Viognier fashion, Château du Trignon’s 2023 Viognier Côtes-du-Rhône Blanc finishes with panache, a crescendo of racy acidity and an enthralling taste of exotica. Enjoy this superlative Viognier moderately chilled, simply cool (40°-50° F), or as you like it. Anticipated maturity: 2024-2026.
Château du Trignon’s 2023 Viognier Côtes-du-Rhône Blanc provides a wonderful accompaniment to seafood, salads, and white meats. This racy Viognier possesses charm and elegance in addition to plenty of gorgeous floral scents and flavors to complement Coconut Shrimp, Sautéed Sea Scallops, and an array of bruschette and flatbreads, including a delicious Peach and Goat Cheese Flatbread. Salade Niçoise and Provençal bouillabaisse make splendid companions, too. Free range chicken, game birds, and sautéed veal medallions marinated in lemon, white wine, butter, and herbs provide additional complements. However, for many of us, a clean glass from which to sip Château du Trignon’s delicious 2023 Viognier Côtes-du-Rhône Blanc is all that is needed in the way of accompaniments, as the wine provides enormous palate appeal on its own as an aperitif. It is also makes a splendid after dinner sipper. Bon Appétit.
Château du Trignon has for over a century been one of the Southern Rhône Valley’s most respected wine estates. With considerable holdings in Gigondas, Rasteau, Sablet and other premier Côtes-du-Rhône locales, five successive generations of the Roux family firmly established Château du Trignon as a first-rate purveyor of classic red Rhône wines. And, since its purchase in 2007 by the Quiot family, renowned for their excellent Domaine du Vieux Lazaret Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Château du Trignon has set the bar even higher, moving from strength to strength with the estate’s red wines, while becoming equally adept at fashioning compelling white wines, most notably the estate’s three very limited bottlings of white Côtes-du-Rhône. Each Côtes-du-Rhône Blanc is made from a single white varietal, either as 100% Marsanne, Roussanne or Viognier. This month’s selection is Château du Trignon’s 2023 Viognier Côtes-du-Rhône Blanc, one of the Southern Rhône Valley’s finest and rarest white wines. Too bad this comely Viognier is produced in such limited quantities that we can only purvey it to our white wine only members.
The Quiots have continuously pushed the envelope in regard to the quality and character of Château du Trignon’s red and white wines. They have also added a delicious Vacqueyras to the mix and further developed their white wine portfolio. Thanks to the Quiots’ experience and acumen (they have been winegrowers in the Southern Rhône since 1748), Château du Trignon’s wines display considerable charm as well as power and depth, setting high standards for the entire Southern Rhône Valley.
